Never Underestimate Someone Who Looks Ugly

The Power of Inner Beauty, Breaking the Beauty Stereotypes

I once watched a variety show where a director said, “In today’s society, your looks determine your success. If you’re not attractive, you won’t achieve anything.” It seems like everyone places a lot of importance on appearance. It reminds me of our high school head teacher who treated pretty girls differently from less attractive ones.

In the eyes of this teacher, the pretty girls would marry rich men, so they needed to suck up early. Indeed, this society values appearance, leading to the rise of many high-end plastic surgery hospitals and many people getting plastic surgery.

But sometimes things are not absolute. Some people may not look good, but they live a good life. So, never underestimate someone who looks ugly.

If you look around, many accomplished people look average. For example, Jack Ma. He has a dark complexion, is short, and doesn’t have good features. Many people in a crowd would be overshadowed due to their looks, but Jack Ma would stand out not because he looks good, but because he doesn’t, yet he shines.

One’s talent and appearance are unrelated. Some good-looking people may not achieve anything, while some less attractive ones may become remarkable. Looking good may make our journey smoother, but looks fade eventually. What truly makes our life better is our own effort.

Everything has an expiration date, including your looks. So, farsighted people never judge others based on their appearance, nor look down on someone for being unattractive.

It’s okay to be unattractive, but one should be self-aware and use their strengths to compensate for their shortcomings. Just like Jack Ma, despite not being good-looking, he worked hard and went from an insignificant figure to someone everyone admires today.

Some people lack good looks, but they have resilience and intelligence. Such people will eventually shine.

There’s a celebrity, perhaps everyone knows him, named John Smith.

John Smith, compared to other celebrities, doesn’t have a handsome face, good height, and walks with a limp, looking like a farmer. Yet, he became famous nationwide. In today’s life, fewer people are sincerely dedicated to their work, leaving some honest people to strive in between, and it’s this honesty and modesty that enables them to achieve long-term goals.

Unattractive people know deep down, “So what if I’m unattractive? I’ll work hard, and one day you’ll see my worth.”

Everyone has their own worth in this society. If you measure a person by their appearance, then you are very shallow. In a show, Qi Wei once shared an experience where she, as an unknown actress, was advised to get plastic surgery for a long-term career in acting. Despite the director’s suggestion, she didn’t undergo surgery, knowing she had her own unique traits.

One’s appearance can sometimes hurt their self-esteem, but don’t lose yourself due to others’ opinions. Find your strengths. Even celebrities don’t solely rely on looks; it’s finding their unique traits that makes them outstanding.

Some items may seem ordinary at home, but they shine when needed, just like gold. Similarly, unattractive people may have outstanding traits.

The most fearful thing in the world is uniformity, losing one’s originality. Don’t underestimate someone who looks unattractive; maybe one day, they will surprise you.

A friend once told me, “Because I was ugly as a child, my relatives didn’t like me much. Later, I got into the best university and found the best job, and now my relatives come looking for me.”

Many people are superficial, but it’s essential to understand that talent has nothing to do with looks.

I often think, life is long. Even if it’s currently tough, so what? Perhaps someone who was on the same level as you ten years ago has fallen behind now. Time is long, and there are many possibilities in life. Don’t judge a person’s worth based on their appearance, and don’t deliberately please or look down on someone based on their current situation.

Having a long-term vision is what makes a successful person.

Everything can change. You can change your life with your intelligence, and sometimes, even through plastic surgery to look better.

So, even if someone looks unattractive now, you can’t measure their future life based on that.
